FAQ:
1. What does the Membership include?
- Answer: The initial purchase of a membership includes one day pass, each additional day will only be $40. The membership includes retrieval services, meaning if you're in distress, we’ll assist in retrieving you from the water. It’s a great option for those who wing to the island but don’t use the shuttle services. On your second trip to the island you will need to purchase a Day Pass to get shuttle transportation to and from the island.
2. Does it only cover retrieval services, or are there other benefits?
- Answer: In addition to retrieval services, the Membership also provides access to events on the island and allows you to support SWS. It does not include shuttle transportation, but you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that if you need help in the water, we’re available to assist. You do need a membership to be on the island.
3. Why was the price for Day Passes increased to $65?
- Answer: The price for Day Passes was increased to better align with the operational costs of offering shuttle services, rescue, and other community support. This helps us ensure that we can continue providing services while maintaining financial sustainability. Additionally, Membership + Day Pass is a more affordable option for frequent visitors who want to enjoy both the shuttle and rescue services.
4. What makes the Membership + Day Pass option a better deal?
- Answer: The Membership + Day Pass gives you retrieval services and access to the shuttle, all for just $40 plus. If you buy two separate Day Passes at $65 each, you’re spending $130. With the Membership + Day Pass bundle, you get more flexibility, a shuttle ride, access to retrieval services, and the added benefit of being able to participate in events and prize giveaways. It’s a great value for those who want to make the most of their experience while supporting SWS. The initial membership purchase does include ONE day pass
5. Can I still purchase a Shuttle Pass without a Membership?
- Answer: If you’re purchasing a Season Pass, both the Membership and Shuttle Pass are included. For Day Users, you have two options:
- You can purchase a Membership for your first day and then a $40 Shuttle Day Pass for subsequent days. You only need to purchase the membership once in the season.
- You can buy a Day Pass for $65, which gives you access to the shuttle and the beach, but does not include the Membership
- All season passes include a Membership
The $40 Day Pass option is only available to those who also purchase a Membership
6. How does the Shuttle Pass work for non-members?
- Answer: To use the shuttle, you must be a member or purchase a $65 day pass.
- If you’re purchasing a Season Pass, both the Membership and Shuttle Pass are included.
- For Day Users, you have two options:
- You can purchase a Membership and a Shuttle Pass
- You can buy a Day Pass for $65, which gives you shuttle access, but does not include the Membership. So each visit will cost $65.
The $40 Day Pass option is only available to those who have purchased a Membership, which includes both shuttle access and rescue services at a better value.
7. What happens if I don’t need shuttle services, but want to support SWS?
- Answer: If you don't need shuttle services but want to support SWS, you can purchase a Membership. This will provide you with retrieval services (if needed) and also allows you to contribute to the ongoing operations of SWS.
A message from the President of SWS
As we prepare for the 2025 season, I’d like to update you on a few key developments. Following the District of Squamish’s decision to permanently close Feather Park Watersports Beach to kiteboarding, the board is actively seeking alternative access points. Since September, we’ve been working with city council, Tourism Squamish, SSA Marine, local businesses, and the BC Sailing Association to address immediate and long-term access needs. We’re currently preparing a proposal to secure sustained access for windsports, including kiteboarding, in Squamish. Stay tuned for more details.
Following data collected over the last season, we realized that close to a third of the rescues came from Feather Park with many of the riders not being members. This led us to revise our membership model to make it more accessible, with a lower entry cost to try to reach people that do not necessarily need a shuttle to the Pepahim island. This change aims to increase our membership numbers and strengthen our voice in negotiations for windsports access.
Memberships help fund our safety operations and allows us to advocate for safe access to areas near a wildlife management area, an international industrial port, and around increasing commercial traffic in the region.
Our volunteers and staff remain dedicated to improving access and safety for all windsports enthusiasts. We’re also excited to announce a series of events this season, in collaboration with local partners.
Thank you for your continued support! We look forward to a safe and exciting season ahead, and hope to see you on the water!
Thanks for supporting the windsports community. We’re always looking to improve our operations for membership. Have an idea or want to get involved? Let us know. We look forward to seeing you on the water!
